A caffeine-free bedtime tea made around chamomile and lavender, for the stretch of evening when you’re tired but not quite settled.
You know the hour. Dinner’s done, the house has gone quiet, and you’re tired in a way you can feel in your shoulders, but your mind hasn’t caught up. It’s still running tomorrow’s list, replaying a conversation, half-watching something it isn’t really watching. This is the in-between hour, and it’s exactly the moment Sleepy tea was made for.
Sleepy is our bedtime herbal tea, and the first thing you notice is the smell. Soft and floral, a little sweet, with a cool minty edge underneath. It’s the kind of aroma that fills the kitchen while it steeps and starts doing its quiet work before you’ve taken a sip. In the cup it’s gentle and rounded, never sharp, the floral notes from chamomile and rose sitting against a clean lift of spearmint.
It’s caffeine-free, which sounds obvious for an evening tea but matters more than people expect. There’s nothing in here working against the wind-down you’re trying to reach. Sleepy recently picked up a Golden Leaf Award, which we were glad about, though the recognition we care about most is someone telling us it’s become the last thing they reach for each night.
Sleepy is for anyone whose body clocks off before their head does. The person who lies down already braced for a restless night. The one who knows they should put the phone away an hour earlier but hasn’t found the thing to replace it with. It sits in our Unwind range because that’s precisely the state it’s built for: the slow, deliberate easing-down at the end of a day, not a quick fix dropped in at the last second.
A SMALL NOTE
It suits people who like a ritual more than a remedy. If you’re the sort who finds comfort in the small, repeated acts that mark the close of a day, this is a cup that rewards that.
Steep one bag or a heaped teaspoon of the loose blend in just-off-the-boil water for around five minutes, longer if you want it stronger. Cover it while it steeps so the delicate floral notes stay in the cup rather than drifting off with the steam.
Then, and this is the part that matters, drink it somewhere you can actually settle. Not standing at the bench, not with a screen in your other hand. The point of Sleepy isn’t only what’s in the cup, it’s the pause the cup gives you a reason to take. Most people find their place is an armchair, the edge of the bed, a spot by a window. Give it the last half-hour or hour of your evening and let it be the thing that tells your body the day is closing.
Sleepy is built around chamomile, a flower used for centuries as a calming evening drink, layered with lavender for a deep floral softness and spearmint to cool and round everything out. From there we add the quieter botanicals: linden flower, passion flower, hops flower, hawthorn leaf and flower, rose petals, lemongrass, and blue cornflower for the gentle colour it brings to the cup. Twelve considered ingredients in all, each chosen for the part it plays rather than to pad a list.
Hops and passion flower in particular are old companions in traditional evening blends, the sort of botanicals that have quietly featured in wind-down rituals long before anyone studied why. We blend it all here in Australia, working with whole botanicals so the character of each one comes through.
Sleepy isn’t a sleeping pill, and we’d never pretend it is. It won’t override a genuinely difficult night or undo a day that’s left you wired. What it offers is smaller and steadier: a warm, caffeine-free cup and a clear signal to your nervous system that the day is done. For a lot of people, drunk consistently, that signal becomes part of how the evening ends. That’s the whole intention behind it.
